Thesis title:  Basement and cover tectonics of the Eastern Cordillera foothills between Cimitarra and Guaduas (Colombia).

Supervisor:  Prof. H. Komuro (2001-2003).

My study will combine gravimetric, magnetometric and seismic information to develop a conceptual and structural model of a zone near the Colombian Eastern Cordillera. This model will be useful in future hazard identification and economic potential assessments.

Development of a regional structural model for the area will help explain the interaction between the foothills and cover of the west side of the Eastern Cordillera. It will also contribute to the identification and characterization of structures of possible interest in oil exploration.

Con el presente estudio se pretende integrar informacion gravimetrica, magnetometrica y sismica para desarrollar un modelo geologico-estructural de un bloque ubicado en el flanco occidental de la cordillera oriental colombiana.

Este modelo regional, podra ayudar a explicar la interaccion entre el basamento y la covertera de la cordillera oriental, asi como identificar y caracterizar estructuras (nuevas o ya cartografiadas), que por su naturaleza revistan interes para la exploracion petrolera. Tambien podra ser utilizado para la identifiacion de riesgos y valoracion del potencial economico de la region.
