Thesis title:  Calc-alkaline series of Klyuchevskoy and Bezymianny volcanoes: Petrological and geochemical study coupled with computer modeling.
Supervisor:  Assoc. Prof. J.-I. Kimura (2001-2003).

The target of my project is petrological and geochemical investigation of the andesitic and basaltic lavas of these two famous Russian volcanoes. The aim is to answer these questions: what is the genetic relationship between the andesitic and basaltic lavas, and what mechanism(s) are responsible for their observed diversity? My study will be based on comprehensive major and trace element abundances (determined by XRF and ICP-MS), Nd-Sr isotope analyses (TIMS), and compositions of coexisting minerals and melt inclusions (EPMA). These data will be coupled with results of computer modeling by the COMAGMAT phase equilibrium program, to develop and evaluate a model for the magma evolution of the plumbing system of the Klyuchevskoy and Bezymyanny volcanoes.
