Thesis title:
Petrological study of metamorphic rocks in the Atbashy area, Southern Tien-Shan, Kyrgyzstan.
Supervisor:
Prof. Akira Takasu (2007-2009).
The Atbashy area lies within the Hercynian folded belt of the Southern Tien-Shan of Kyrgyzstan.
The Atbashy area consists of the Choloktor and the Atbashy suites. The Choloktor suite is exposed on
the northwestern slopes of the Atbashy Range, and extends about 10-15 km NE-SW, with a width of 1-1.5 km.
In the southeastern part the Choloktor suite is bordered by a fault and metamorphic rocks of
the lower Proterozoic Atbashy suite. In the northwestern part the Atbashy suite overlies Carboniferous
to Permian rocks.
The aims of my study are to:
-
Undertake detailed petrological study of the metamorphic rocks in the Atbashy area
(Choloktor and Atbashy suites)
-
Determine the P-T conditions and the metamorphic evolution of these metamorphic rocks.
-
Reveal the metamorphic relationship between the Choloktor and Atbashy suites.
-
Geochronological study of the metamorphic rocks from the Atbashy area to establish
the P-T-t paths of these HP-UHP metamorphic rocks.
-
Geodynamic implications and discussion based on the results of petrological
and geochronological studies, to understand the origin and evolution of
the Atbashy metamorphic rocks in a global subduction context, and to constrain
the geodynamic history of the area.
Detailed petrological study of the high-P schists and eclogites will allow the P-T paths
and conditions of the Choloktor and the Atbashy suites to be determined,
and will clarify the tectonic evolution of the Southern Tien-Shan.
